5 Ways to Leverage Your Social Media Clout

In April this year, my fellow Smedio blogger Jay Adams wrote an interesting story on “10 Ways to Build Social Media Clout” for your business. Building a useful and impressive social media clout is only half the battle won. The other and equally important challenge is leveraging the social media clout into a business’ success story.

How does a true social media clout benefit your business? How do you leverage your social media clout to rank high in the social media world? In this post, I present 5 ways on how you can leverage your social media clout most effectively.

Collaborate

Social Media is all about collaboration and community building. Whether it’s a new business opportunity, a reference request or a second opinion, collaborating with like-minded individuals with your social media clout pays rich dividends. Each day, I get introduced to several social media experts and online marketers and I make it a point to never miss an opportunity to involve the best out of that pack for new innovative ventures.

Recommendations

Humans tend to believe what they hear/ read and social media is no exception to that rule. Recommendations and word of mouth marketing are perhaps the best ever “good press” your business can get in the social media world. Leverage your social media clout to build a positive impression about your business. It spreads like wild fire and will do a world of good to your business.

Ask the Experts

Social Media is still evolving and will continue to do so for the next several years. If you are a Twitter expert who needs help on Facebook or vice-versa, do not hesitate to seek help from the experts in your social media circle of influence. I’m sure they’ll be more than willing to help you and your business out. What’s more, it’s a give-and-take relationship so the next time they need your help, gladly offer your services.

Networking

I’m an active LinkedIn user and my professional network keeps growing every single day. I often use my first level connections to reach out to new users. In most cases, they oblige and it helps me expand my professional network. Networking is a crucial aspect of any business’ social media aspirations and the best way to build a well connected network for yourself is to tap your existing connections.

Volunteer

Social Media isn’t one-way traffic. If you are good to others, they will be happy to help you out. If you volunteer and contribute to the community, you can expect the community members to stand by your side when you need them. This is especially important when your social media aspirations don’t go as per the plan and you are forced to seek external help.

What strategy do you follow to leverage your social media clout in your business? How have the social media influencers contributed to your business’ success story? Please share your opinion by leaving a comment below this post.

  1. The common lesson behind this is just “be human”. It’s never been more important in business, especially ’cause now people can’t relate to you face to face, therefore they need to be related to in a different way, possibly even more humanly than before.

  2. Excellent post. Social Media is not a vacuum and no person is an island unto himself, online. We all need a rich and diverse volume of human touch-points to succeed with Social Media.

  3. Great post! Social media feels like high school again… but better! Popularity comes from being present and real. In high school if you weren’t at the parties over the weekend, you weren’t part of the conversations and thus forgotten about. It’s the same in SM. Engage, get involved, have an opinion, care about people and be real. Seems like a lot, but it’s easy once you get into it!
    Thanks again for the post!

  4. I needed to thank you for this fantastic read!! I certainly loved every little bit of it. I have you saved as a favorite to look at new things you post…
